Platform action game enriched with elements taken from the genre of metroidvania. The main character of Flynn: Son of Crimson is the title boy, whose shoulders are responsible for stopping the expansion of the hellish dimension of The Scourge, which is absorbing more and more parts of the continent.
Flynn: Son of Crimson is an action platform game enriched with elements of metroidvania, developed by independent studio Thunderhorse. The game appeared on PC, and its creation was possible thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.
Flynn: Son of Crimson takes us to the fantasy land of Rosantica. Its inhabitants enjoyed a peaceful life as long as there was a barrier separating it from the dark dimension called The Scourge. The dam is now bursting and Rosantica is gradually succumbing to the hellish forces ruled by the evil Lord Zealock. During the game we play as Flynn, an orphan gifted with magical abilities. The protagonist is burdened with the difficult task of stopping The Scourge's expansion before it is too late.
In Flynn: Son of Crimson we observe the action from the side. Exploration is the main element of the game. In the course of the struggle, we visit five different areas in Rosantica: the snowy Mistral Peak, the swampy Hollow Islands, the forests of Rustwood, magical Shivering Spire, and the fortress of Sanctia, the latter being Flynn's base of operations. In addition, the protagonist can open portals leading to The Scourge, where he not only faces various dangers but also helps the kidnapped inhabitants of Rosantica. It is worth noting that hero is not alone in his quest - if necessary, he can summon Dex, a loyal mythical beast. In addition, the whole world is not immediately open to us, because obtaining access to selected locations often requires the use of a specific skill or the acquisition of a specific item.
Another important element of the game are the dynamic battles with the opponents, including bosses. For the needs of the game, the devs have prepared an extensive combat system - we fight in real-time, and during the duels we use melee weapons (Crimson Blade, Crimson Axe, and Crimson Claws) and ranged weapons (Super Awesome Crimson Bow), between which we can switch freely. As the adventure progresses, the hero develops his combat skills, learning new techniques by paying with valuables found along the way.
The story mode is complemented by a special module in which we are take to an arena and face the challenges prepared by the devs.
Two-dimensional visuals of Flynn: Son of Crimson were made using the pixel art technique.

Game Ratings for Flynn: Son of Crimson Video Game.
LadiesGamers.com: by James Luff
Flynn: Son of Crimson may just look like another 2D adventure, something that there really is no shortage of in releases this year alone. But this one ranks up easily as one of the greats. Tight combat, a great soundtrack and an adventure that is short but instantly replayable. Flynn: Son of Crimson is a game that doesn’t waste your time. I don’t remember a moment where I was bored or frustrated despite playing many games like this before. It even gave me Wonder Boy vibes which is always good in my book. Plus it has one of the coolest spirit dogs in gaming. A fantastic way to top off 2021 for me and I hope you too find the time to check it out.
COGconnected: 80 / 100 by Ricky Knight
All in all, Flynn: Son of Crimson is a fun and short adventure that’s pleasing to look at with a story that doesn’t get in its way. While it never quite hits the highs of Shovel Knight my time with it was pleasant, if a little too breezy at times. If you’re in need of a beautiful but short 2D adventure, spending an afternoon with your pal Dex to set the world right is an easy recommendation to make.
Niche Gamer: 5 / 10 by Fingal Belmont
Flynn: Son of Crimson is likely to get swallowed up in the ocean of similar action platformers. It’s not a bad game, just a violently forgettable one. A dry piece of toast that sat out for too long, and has long since gone cold. Some players may find comfort with it, but most will be bored by it.
