The number of frames per second is one of the most important parameters determining the comfort of gameplay. Working on a shooter titled FPS Quest, developers from the Spanish studio Farlight Games Industry decided to link it more directly to gameplay, making the health of the character we lead into battle here dependent on it.
In FPS Quest, we view events from a first-person perspective (FPP). The action of the game takes place in fantastic dungeons, which we traverse with firearms in our hands. At our disposal are, among others, pistols, rifles and shotguns. The gameplay, on the other hand, is based on the elimination of hostile enemies, led by reanimated skeletons.
Thanks to a fictitious modification installed in the game, the fps indicator here replaces the character's life bar. The smoother the program runs, the more damage we can take. We make up the missing frames per second by shooting enemies accurately. But it doesn't stop there, as in tricky situations we can change the settings to increase the smoothness of the gameplay.
To do so, we lower the quality of textures and models, and remove entire objects, such as doors, ceilings and even walls or floors. In doing so, we must be careful not to spoil the game excessively. On the other hand, the resulting glitches can be used to your advantage, for example, by pushing an enemy into the black abyss looming beyond the level's edge.
In addition, scripts, or special modifiers that allow you to directly manipulate the fps rate and speed up or slow down gameplay at the expense of temperature, are waiting to be tested here. As we progress, we gain permanent upgrades for characters and alternative weapon models.
There are various factionsin the world of FPS Quest. PatchEngine is trying to keep the mod alive in order to make money from it, OutofBounds members are against monetization, thus showing us the secrets and skr?ts, Custodians defends the original vision behind the game, exterminating bugs and cheats, while Process Null is an AI that, wanting to relax, tries to stop our progress.
A separate mention is due to the Lord of the Underworld, an AI that tries to help and removes obstacles for us. Sometimes the excessive enthusiasm it displays only makes its actions worse.
The graphics of FPS Quest are kept in a slightly cartoonish style. The game's fps rate does not reflect the actual frame rate, but only simulates it.
