Futurama: Game of Drones for AND and iOS is a logic game with elements of adventure, based on a license of the extremely popular animated series Futurama on Fox, released on mobile devices. Production was created in partnership with Fox Digital Entertainment by the German company Wooga, known from several successful mobile and browser games.
Although we are dealing with a logic game, developers of Futurama: Game of Thrones for AND and iOS took the story of their production very seriously, and involved in its creation, among others, Dave Grossman (co-creator of the first two installments in the Monkey Island series, Day of the Tentacle and The Wolf Among Us), Jonathon Myers (Game of Thrones Ascent) and Patrice Verrone – screenwriter and producer of original Futurama. Story depicted in the game revolves around a rivalry between Planet Express courier company with its longtime competitor, MomCorp, as a result of which Fry and his companions from the series are forced to embark on a journey through the different regions of the universe.
Although the title of the game is a quite clear reference to the cult Games of Thrones, the gameplay itself has nothing to do with the TV series, nor its computer adaptations. In fact, Futurama: Game of Drones for AND and iOS is primarily a logic game based on a slightly modified mechanics of the popular casual match-3 (in this case match-4) genre. Thus, the game consists of connecting drones, working for the Planet Express agency, in groups of four, all in order to flip competitive courier company, MomCorp, off. Subsequent logic puzzles that we face are united by the extremely expanded – taking into account productions of this kind – narrative layer.
Futurama: Game of Drones for AND and iOS is distinguished, of course, by the characteristic, cartoonish graphic design which is obviously along the lines of the TV series. Undoubted advantage for all fans of Futurama is the fact that during the game in addition to Fry we meet a bunch of characters known from the TV screen, including Leela, Mom, Richard Nixon, Amy Wong or Hubert Harnsworth.
