Gallipoli is the fourth installment of the WW1 Game Series created by Blackmill Games studio. It is a series of first-person shooters featuring a historical setting of World War I, designed for online play. The gameplay based on team battles and this time it takes us to the territories of the Middle East.
In terms of mechanics, this game does not differ from the previous installments of the series. We participate in team battles, having previously chosen from a variety of character classes. We can take command as an officer, provide suppressive fire as a light machine gun holder, or assist the wounded in the role of a medic.
The game made by Blackmill Games emphasizes realism, manifested in maps, dust, weapons and uniforms, both of the British Empire soldiers and the Ottoman Empire. The theater of war includes the battle for control over the titular Gallipoli beaches, the defense of key positions in Al-Kut, or charges through the deserts of lower Mesopotamia.
This FPS was created with the idea of online multiplayer gameplay, although we can also encounter characters controlled by the AI. The game includes a cross-play feature.
The characteristic mode of Gallipoli is a battle between 50 players, where dynamic actions matter. The goal of the attacking side is to carry out tasks as quickly as possible, while the defenders try to dig in and hold their positions as long as possible to weaken the opponent's momentum.
At the beginning of the great war, the progress of the Allies on the Western Front came to a standstill, as breaking through the German defense seemed impossible. Meanwhile, defeating the Ottoman Empire and occupying Constantinople would not only open a supply route with Russia, but also provide a new point of attack on Germany and Austria-Hungary.
The British believed that this plan could succeed, so they gathered an expedition from across the empire and launched an offensive. However, they soon realized that the Ottomans were not as weak as they had expected.
All of the games from the WW1 Game Series were created on the Unity engine.
