Multiplayer action game, developed by Illfonic studio. In Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed four players take on the role of the Ghostbusters, and the fifth one - a ghost hunted by them. Between missions we go to the firehouse, where we can upgrade protagonists.
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is a multiplayer action game based on the license of the iconic movie series. It was developed by Illfonic studio, known for such projects as Friday the 13th: The Game or Predator: Hunting Grounds.
The action of Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is set after the events presented in the film Ghostbusters: Afterlife from 2021. Ghostbusters have resumed their activities and the new team is under the supervision of two famous predecessors; they are advised by Winston Zeddemore (played by Ernie Hudson) and Ray Stantz (played by Dan Aykroyd).
In Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, a team of four Ghostbusters hunt for... well, ghosts. Taking on the role of one of them, we observe the action from a first-person perspective (FPP). To catch the unwanted visitor from the afterlife, we have to not only work closely together, but also make use of futuristic weapons and gadgets at our disposal. We are talking about a detector that allows us to detect an invisible enemy, a proton blaster that allows us to attack a ghost with a beam of energy, and a trap in which we can catch the enemy (provided that we manage to close it at the right moment).
When we take control as a ghost, our primary goal is to scare as many people as possible and not get trapped. The ghosts, presented from a third-person perspective (TPP), can fly, teleport between gaps in the map (which the Ghostbusters can close), and possess various objects. In addition, as one of the slimy creatures, we can use slime and summon helpers, as well as use a special vision mode, thanks to which we can see the Ghostbusters through walls. All this consumes ectoplasm, which regenerates automatically; standing still, however, is not the best idea, because then we are an easy target for opponents.
In the breaks between missions we go to the firehouse, where we can customize both our Ghostbusters (by equipping them with new equipment and skills and upgrading the ones we already have) and the ghost.
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed was designed for multiplayer action. Players who prefer solo play can try their hand at fighting bots. Thanks to cross-platform features, computer and console players can have fun together.
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed features graphics of good quality. The whole thing was kept in a colorful style known from the film original.

Game Ratings for Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed Video Game.
Metro GameCentral: 4 / 10
Bustin' will not make you feel good in this shallow and repetitive asymmetric multiplayer, that is one of the worst of the recent crop of 80s movie homages.

As an online service game, I can’t wait to see what comes next, whether it new levels, ghosts, or cosmetics to name a few. If you’re a Ghostbusters fan, you’ve probably pre-ordered this already. If you're a fan of asymmetrical games like Evil Dead the Game, Dead by Daylight, or others, this is a must-buy. This is IllFonic’s best game they’ve ever made and everyone on the team should feel incredibly proud of the work they put into it. It’s no easy task to create a Ghostbusters game, but they did it. Grab your particle thrower and remember the wise words of Louis Tully: "Stay fit. Keep sharp. Make good decisions."
Game Informer: 7.8 / 10 by Bryan Vore
The ideal way to experience Spirits Unleashed is to round up your buddies, rotate through maps, take turns playing as the ghost, and proceed to hoot and holler. If that’s not an option, matchmaking with random players is smooth and quick, and in-game markers make teamwork possible even if everyone’s playing off-mic. The thrill of Ghostbusting eventually starts to wane, but it takes a while to get to that point, and updates down the road could help to keep those Proton Packs humming.
