GreedFall: Gold Edition

GreedFall: Gold Edition is a full, enhanced edition of the RPG set in a fantasy world modeled on the 17th century during the conquest of the Americas. As part of the bundle, developers from Spiders studio, known for Bound by Flame and The Technomancer, among others, have released a new DLC, The De Vespe Conspiracy, in addition to graphical improvements for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Plot

The basic story in GreedFall: Gold Edition is the same as the base game. As a young legate of the Merchant Congregation we come to the island of Teer Fradee to find a cure to fight malichor, a plague decimating the population of the Old World. In the course of our search we will have to observe how the colonizers take control over successive areas of the natives, causing increasingly bloody conflicts. At the same time, the Guardians emerge from the forests of Teer Fradee: ancient beasts that protect these areas from the invaders.

The DLC included in the edition, The De Vespe Conspiracy, tells the story of the behind-the-scenes intrigues going on in The Congregation of Merchants, which can disrupt the current balance of power between the factions. We will learn about them by exploring a hitherto unexplored area of the island, full of new beasts and inhabited by a previously unknown strain of natives.

Mechanics

Gold Edition does not introduce intrusive changes to the gameplay. Instead, it adds new equipment, monsters with a unique set of attacks and a completely new location to explore. This means that the game still relies on performing complex tasks, developing characters in several categories of skills (loosely corresponding to the classic division into a warrior, rogue and mage, and we can freely combine skills from all of these classes), exploration, fighting enemies (both human and monsters) and crafting. Our character's abilities determine how we can deal with problems - many situations can be solved by an appropriate conversation - and thanks to the fact that we are supported by two companions, we have many additional options at our disposal.

Teer Fradee is divided into smaller maps, within which we have a lot of freedom of movement. In this way, a new region within The De Vespe Conspiracy was also added. We move between particular locations using fast travel system, in the meantime visiting special camps. When we are there, we can talk with our companions, take care of our equipment, sell unnecessary items or upgrade the character, and in this time the destination area is loaded, so we do not have to stare at the loading screens.

Technical aspects

The basic version of GreedFall already looked good in terms of graphics, but the Gold Edition introduced further improvements in this regard. On PS5 and Xbox Series X/S it became possible to play at 4K resolution and 60fps, load times were significantly improved, and visuals such as lighting and environmental design were enhanced.
