Hoshigami: Ruining Blue Earth Description
Developed by MaxFive, the game is a representative of tactical jRPGs. The title is based on proven mechanisms, offering a wide range of character progression opportunities and challenging turn-based battles requiring strategic thinking.
Story
Years ago, the fantasy land of Ixia was inhabited by people and spirits associated with various elements. People who could communicate with them were called the Hoshigami. This peaceful existence was disturbed by the appearance of a powerful wizard, Villa, who decided to use his power to conquer the world. The alliance between people and spirits formed to fight against back managed to win after a long and difficult battle. Many centuries later, a war breaks out in the land now called Madrias, involving three kingdoms, Nightweld, Gerauld, and Valaim. A group of mercenaries, including the protagonist Fazz, is involved in the conflict. Their task is to protect the mysterious ruins of Ixia. They do not expect that they will soon play a key role in the fate of the land threatened by an ancient power. The devs have prepared several different endings of the story, and its course depends on the decisions made by the players.
Mechanics
Hoshigami: Ruining Blue Earth is a tactical jRPG, in which turn-based battles, fought in isometric projection, divided into hexagonal grid, are a key element of the game. During combat, characters can use not only traditional physical attacks but also spells or special abilities. The mechanics developed by the creators contain several characteristic elements. Among them is the RAP system, where each action taken by a given hero charges a special bar. When it reaches its maximum, the hero loses the ability to perform any actions until the end of the turn. In addition, warriors can also use the Shoot system to repel enemies by two fields or combine their attacks into deadly combinations with the appropriate settings. During the battles, it is also necessary to pay attention to the conditions on the arena, including uneven terrain or various traps and dangers. An additional difficulty is the fact that the characters killed in battle must be revived before the end of the fight, otherwise, they die forever.
MaxFive's game enables us to develop the available characters in many ways. The statistics and abilities are influenced, among others, by the religion of a given hero. Different deities offer different benefits and have specific weaknesses that need to be taken into account. During the battles the team members collect not only experience points but also devotion to a given supernatural being, using it to discover new abilities to use on the battlefield.
Technical aspects
Hoshigami: Ruining Blue Earth combines two-dimensional sprites with a three-dimensional environment. The title is maintained in a style referring to Japanese animation. One of the advantages of the game is the atmospheric soundtrack.
