Rise of the Ronin is an RPG with an extensive arcade combat system and an open world structure. As the titular warrior without a lord, we traverse 19th-century Japan troubled by conflict between supporters of the Shogun and the Emperor.
Rise of the Ronin is an action RPG with an open world. The game was developed by Team Ninja studio, the authors of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and the NiOh and Ninja Gaiden series.
Plot
The game's plot is set in 19th-century Japan, during the brutal period known as the Bakumatsu, or the final years of the Edo era, when the country was transforming from a feudal empire ruled by the Tokugawa shogunate into a more modern state controlled by Emperor Mutsuhito.
The player takes on the role of a ronin, or warrior without a master, who is free to decide his own fate. He travels across Japan, taking on a variety of challenges, changing the fate of the people he encounters, as well as influencing the outcome of the entire civil war.
Game mechanics
Rise of the Ronin is an action RPG, in which we observe events from a third-person camera. During the game we explore a large world with an open structure, talk to characters, complete quests and develop the character's skills.
Above all, however, as befits an action-RPG game, we spend most of our time fighting. The skirmish system is spectacular and challenging, offering a rich selection of attacks and techniques.

Rise of the Ronin features attractive three-dimensional graphics, the main advantage of which is the faithful recreation of 19th-century Japan.

While Rise of the Ronin suffers from outdated and unattractive graphics, the story and gameplay more than make up for it with a wealth of varied and interesting content available paired with good storytelling that keeps players engaged and wanting to know more. Fans of Team Ninja may be disappointed from the step down in combat quality, but nonetheless it is an enjoyable title that we can recommend at full price.

So, is it worth playing Rise of the Ronin? I think so. Especially if you enjoy clearing a map filled with scattered markers. There’s a good chance the game might wear you out before you finish it, but you can always come back to it after a break to check off a few more collectibles. Personally, I’m looking forward to a sequel because it’s a pretty solid foundation that Team Ninja could expand on.
