Rock Square Thunder is an independent Polish development studio from Krakow, founded in 2020, whose portfolio includes The Lightbringer project. Another work of this team is I Hate This Place, a survival horror game inspired by the comic book series of the same title by Kyle Starks and Artyom Toplin.

Gameplay

In I Hate This Place , we view the action in an isometric view. The production gives us an open world, where we find, among other things, an abandoned town and bunkers or haunted forests. During the day we explore the locations, gather resources and produce better and better equipment. In addition, we use the materials we gain to improve our encampment and rebuild outposts. Although we also have to face opponents, the latter start the real hunting only after nightfall.

GameGrin: 4.5 / 10 by Alyssa Rochelle Payne

I Hate This Place has good ideas, but its execution misses the mark. A lacklustre story, not enough horror, and disjointed mechanics likely won't appeal to survival horror fans.

TheReviewGeek: 5 / 10 by Greg Wheeler

I Hate This Place isn’t a bad indie game, but it’s a frustratingly uneven one, with strong atmosphere undercut by clunky mechanics and technical hiccups

Gaming Boulevard: 6.5 / 10 by Lander Van der Biest

I Hate This Place has a strong identity and some genuinely compelling ideas. Its early hours make effective use of sound, darkness, and isolation, and its visual style gives it a personality that’s hard to ignore. But the systems underneath don’t push back hard enough to sustain that tension. Survival becomes comfortable, and for a horror game, that’s just a shame and something I can’t ignore. I didn’t hate my time with I Hate This Place, but it could have been so much better.
