Platformer with elements of an adventure game in which we follow the fate of three characters - a knight devoted to the forces of darkness, a creature feeding on pain and a lonely girl. Inmost gameplay varies depending on which of the heroes we play at a given moment - while the knight may face nightmarish adversaries, the others have to avoid confrontation with them or lure them directly into a trap.
Inmost is a platform game enriched with certain elements typical for adventure games. The game described herein was developed by an independent studio Hidden Layer Games - a two-person team based in Lithuania - and published by Chucklefish.
Inmost tells the story of three characters - a knight devoted to the forces of darkness, a being feeding on pain, and a lonely girl. Their fates are intertwined, creating a dark story taking place across two worlds.
In Inmost, players observe the action from the side perspective. On their adventure, players travel through gloomy locations, some of which include in an old, dark castle. Exploration is diversified not only by secret passages waiting to be discovered and environmental riddles to be solved, but also by deadly traps and opponents straight from nightmares. Depending on which hero we play at a given moment, we have to avoid confrontation with the enemies, lure them directly into a snare or as a knight - face them, making use of melee weapons.
Inmost has 2D pixel-art visuals. The whole experience has been kept in a dark style, which was achieved through gloomy location designs and matching opponents to the shadows, as well as scarce colors.

Game Ratings for Inmost Video Game.
Nintendo Life: 7 / 10 by PJ O'Reilly
Inmost tells its dark and troubling tale with plenty of style and there's an expertly handled mixing of narrative elements and satisfying gameplay mechanics for the most part that only really loses its way in the final stretch, unwisely wrestling control away from players and brute-forcing a rather neat and tidy ending that's at odds with how deftly the multi-layered story is handled early on. This and a few control niggles aside, however, are not enough to derail what is a genuinely haunting and memorable experience that's well worth checking out.
COGconnected: 80 / 100 by Michael Chow
INMOST was a pleasant surprise. The game was a short experience with a powerful narrative with effects that can last so much longer. As for the gameplay itself, the fun puzzles and collaboration with the story helped to bring the game to life.
Hey Poor Player: 4 / 5 by Heather Johnson Yu
What initially sold me on INMOST was the notion that it was inspired by the considerably more light-hearted To The Moon; while I wasn’t expecting such a tragic tale about pain and suffering, the developers definitively recaptured what made their muse great. Realistic depth of characters, discussion of topics oft-overlooked yet extremely relatable, and a compelling narrative made for a captivating journey that will stick with me for a long time.
