Kings of Lorn: The Fall of Ebris is a dark fantasy game that combines elements of action, adventure and horror. Josiah Jones is responsible for the original concept, and Micah Leigh Jones, who together with two brothers founded TeamKill Media LLC in 2016, is responsible for the final shape of the project. The title was originally released only on PC, but with time it also launched on consoles.

Plot

The story of Kings of Lorn: The Fall of Ebris takes place in the dark world of Lera, destroyed by a deadly disease. The main character is King Farren, who once ruled over Ena: The Kingdom Above All Kingdoms. Deceived by his regent Gulbrand's stories about the extraordinary resources hidden in the mysterious Spires, the ruler left the country to fight the epidemic. To this end, he reopened all the spires in the six remaining kingdoms, with or without the consent of their rulers. When the last one was opened, the world began to disintegrate, the heavens darkened and the oceans dried up. Worried about his actions, the king decided to return to the country.

Once back, it turned out that the regent took over the power in Ena and proclaimed himself the king. Betrayed by his own Order, Farren tries to remove the usurper from power and thus save Ena's society from collapse. The plot interweaves the themes of immortality and travel between dimensions and is full of brutal, gory scenes.

Mechanics

The whole game is observed from first-person perspective. The mainstay of the game is exploring the locations and fighting enemies with the use of several weapons. We have a dagger, bow, sword and axe at our disposal, and each weapon is more or less effective against a certain type of enemy. During clashes it is worth to use various tactics, because some opponents may be deaf (and thus, we do not have to worry about noise) or blind (we can stand right in front of them and we will not be detected). The game is enriched by fights against powerful bosses, for defeating which we receive high quality equipment.

We can save our game only in specific points (in the form of body piles). They are not the only objects worth looking for - from time to time we may come across chapels that permanently improve our health bar. Enemies defeated along the way drop useful items needed to open the passages to subsequent locations, upgrade our equipment or restore our health. The latter are important as there is no mechanic of automatic health regeneration in the game. We collect items by walking over them, which accelerates the pace of the game. Our resources are very limited, so if we decide to fight using mainly a crossbow or bow, we have to be careful not to waste your projectiles.

Technical aspects

Kings of Lorn: The Fall of Ebris is powered by the Unreal Engine, which has enbaled the devs to create good quality graphics with a relatively small budget. The game's design is very dark, both in terms of locations, opponents and our equipment, and the creators admit to being inspired by the Doom series.
