A two-dimensional platformer game set in an alternative version of feudal Japan. Developed by RECOtechnology (a Spanish team), the game brings a continuation to a third-person action-adventure title known as Yasai Ninja. Kyurinaga's Revenge follows the subsequent adventures of the two vegetable-like characters - an onion-samurai Kaoru Tamanegi and a street fighter called Broccoli Joe.

Kyurinaga's Revenge for PS4, PC and XONE is a 2D platformer game set in feudal Japan. Developed by RECOtechnology, the game brings a continuation to 2015's third-person action-adventure title Yasai Ninja.

Plot

The game follows further adventures of two characters resembling vegetables – an onion-samurai called Kaoru Tamanegi and a street fighter by the name of Broccoli Joe; these are the characters that first appeared in Yasai Ninja. Kyurinaga's Revenge is set in a fantasy-like, altenative feudal Japan. The main characters set out for a very dangerous adventure in order to face an evil shogun and his allies.

Mechanics

Contrary to Yasai Ninja, which is a third-person action-adventure title, Kyurinaga's Revenge is a typical platformer game requiring the player mainly to run, jump and climb different platforms. Along the way, the player solves numerous puzzles, avoids many traps and threats, as well as encounters different enemies sent by the game's antagonist, the eponymous Kyurinaga. Each of the player-controlled characters has slightly different abilities at their disposal, such as Joe's deadly kunai or Kaoru's ability to set explosive traps. Since the characters travel together, the key to success here is to make use of their individual talents.

Game modes

Kyurinaga's Revenge for PS4, PC and XONE was designed specifically for cooperation of two players sharing the same screen. The game can be played solo as well, but switching between two characters with different skills is necessary in this case.

Technical aspects

Kyurinaga's Revenge for PS4, PC and XONE offers a colorful, cartoonish art style resembling the previously mentioned Yasai Ninja to a certain extent. Although the game is a fully 3D title, mechanics here (apart from few exceptions) were based on patterns of classic 2D platformers.
