Land of Screens is a point-and-click adventure game about trying to break away from addiction to the Internet and social media. The game was developed by the independent studio Serenity Forge and published by Way Down Deep.
The main character of Land of Screens is a girl named Holland, who broke up with her boyfriend. As her relationship lasted five years, soon afterwards, her social media became red hot from commentary. Instead of engaging in online discussions, the protagonist decides to take a break from the smartphone; in a way, she can rediscover the pleasures and challenges that await her in the real world.
In Land of Screens we observe the action from the side. During the game, we are primarily engaged in conversations; in this way we not only push the story forward, but also help Holland to make new friends and renew old friendships with people who have not been seen for years. All this so that the girl can forget about the recent break-up and the "drama" caused by it in her social media.
This is not easy, because in the game world everyone is staring at the screen of their smartphone, tablet, computer and TV. The protagonist must therefore first make sure that the people she needs to contact try to "log out to life". However, this is not the end of the challenges she has to face. Holland goes to an event full of strangers, a professional conference and family meetings, and also takes part in outdoor events. Each of these events is an opportunity to meet new people and have the face-to-face conversations that a girl needs... However, she must first dare to do so.
The graphic design of the Land of Screens game has been maintained in a cartoon-like, slightly caricatured style.
