Laytonís Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionairesí Conspiracy DX is a remastered version of the adventure game known from Nintendo 3DS. Despite the fact that the protagonist was changed, it is a full-fledged new entry in the Professor Layton series. The game was developed by Level-5.
Laytonís Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionairesí Conspiracy DX takes place in London. The main protagonist of the game is Katrielle Layton (simply Kat for friends) Ė a private investigator and the daughter of Hershel Layton known from previous entries in the series. The main plot of the game focuses on the father of Katrielle Ė she is trying to find her parent who had gone missing in suspicious circumstances. During the investigations, Katrielle is accompanied by a dog named Sharo.
Similarly to the previous entries in the series, Laytonís Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionairesí Conspiracy DX is an adventure game. The players are exploring the world, participating in conversations, finding items, and solving riddles. The main objective is to discover the mysteries of the main plot of the game.
The game features many important changes when compared to previous entries in the series. Instead of challenging the players with complicated puzzles, the emphasis was put on players fulfilling the role of a detective. The protagonist isnít only working on the case of her father. Thanks to her fame, many clients are coming to her with their problems. Various tasks are making the game more varied and they improve the pace of the game.
Laytonís Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionairesí Conspiracy DX features only a singleplayer mode.
Laytonís Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionairesí Conspiracy DX features attractive, two-dimensional graphics based mostly on hand-drawn illustrations with a unique style. Thanks to the larger screen of Nintendo Switch, the game looks better than ever. The controls were improved as well. The developers decided to use the NFC technology in their game. Special amulets can be bought separately from the game Ė touching them with a console will unlock bonus costumes for the main protagonist.
The riddles in the game were created by new designers who previously hadnít worked on the Professor Layton series. The developers were forced to hire new designers due to the death of Akira Taigo, who previously invented riddles in the series and who passed away in March 2016.
