A tactical MMO game inspired by the iconic Jagged Alliance series. The action of the game takes the players to a metropolis from a future torn by a civil war. One gets to assume the role of a regular soldier, who starts from completing simple assignments in order to earn money basic gear and eventually becomes a professional mercenary, setting off on more difficult missions.
Lost Sector Online is a free-to-play MMO strategy game combining the elements of tactical turn-based games and real-time MMORPG. The game was inspired by such iconic games as Fallout Jagged Alliance, and 7.62: High Calibre. Lost Sector Online was developed by Russian independent Lost Sector Technologies dev team, consisting of developers experienced in working on MMO games.
The action of the game is set in 2031 in the streets of the partially deserted metropolis called Broxton. The city is torn by a civil war driven by accelerating technological development. Players begin their career as a regular soldier who does not even own a gun and has to complete simple assignments to earn for new pieces of gear. With time, one can establish a team of mercenaries, visit new parts of Broxton and face more challenging tasks.
The game's mechanics resemble the aforementioned Jagged Alliance series. Players get to experience turn-based action with action points assigned to each mercenary. Moreover, each turn has a time limit forcing players to think on their feet. When completing consecutive missions one unlocks the access to a wide range of equipment and new weapons – both futuristic and realistic. In Lost Sector Online, a team does not comprise nameless mercenaries controlled by the game's AI – one is joined by other players who want to earn as much as possible to develop their characters. This is why after completing a mission one has to pay other players who helped with a given job.
The primary game mode in the cooperative PvE campaign. Players can also compete against each other (PvP) by leading squads they create. Moreover, players can also assemble and create clans to participate in battles for control of consecutive regions of the metropolis. Players' and clans' achievements are visible in special online ranks.
Lost Sector Online is based on a proprietary graphics engine designed to generate high-quality 3D visuals even on weaker machines. The developers took care of such details as camera position, using elements of the environment as cover, and modeling bullet trajectory and their interaction with the surroundings.
