Miles & Kilo, released on the PC, Switch and iOS, is an old-school 2D platformer. The project was developed by an independent developer named Michael Burns. It is a continuation of Kid Tripp from 2013, done by the same creator.

Plot

Miles & Kilo tells the story of the boy Miles and his dog Kilo. During one of the duo's journeys, their plane is hit by a mysterious spirit. The machine crashes on the archipelago of haunted islets. The heroes' task is to find a way to escape from this place.

Mechanics

Miles & Kilo is a retro platformer, modelled on productions from 8-bit consoles and computers. The game is two-dimensional and the gameplay is about going through maps, avoiding obstacles, traps and eliminating enemies by jumping on their heads.

The fun is enhanced by the fact that we can play as both Miles and Kilo. The boy can make slides, bounce off walls, throw fruit at enemies and attack with his fist. In turn, the dog can break through obstacles and make longer jumps.

The game is very difficult and was designed to challenge even the veterans of platformers. The campaign is diversified by boss fights and special sections, in which we have to use a surfboard, swing on ropes or drive a cart in the mine.

Game modes

Miles & Kilo offers a single-player campaign consisting of 31 standard levels and five boss battles. After unlocking the Time Attack mode, we can compete with other users through online rankings as see e.g. who can complete a level with the lowest number of deaths.

Technical aspects

Miles & Kilo has simple but nice graphics effectively recreating the feeling of the 8-bit productions. During the game, we are accompanied by catchy music composed by Chris Kukla.
