Mother Russia Bleeds for PC and PS4 is a brutal, pixel-art beat'em up game paying tribute to such classics as Streets of Rage. The player is taken to the former Soviet Union, and the game was created by Le Cartel - an independent, French developer.

Plot

Mother Russia Bleeds is set in a reality alternative to the 1980s, in the former Soviet Union. The player assumes the role of Siergiej - an anti-hero addicted to drugs, though once a professional boxer. The protagonist gets imprisoned and sentenced to death for the alleged wrongdoings against Mother Russia. When he manages to escape along with three companions, a bloody crusade begins, fueled by unrestrained hunger for vengeance.

Mechanics

Mother Russia Bleeds for PC and PS4 is based on the patterns of classic beat'em ups. The player-controlled character traverses different, subsequent locations such as streets, night clubs and bars, eliminating subsequent waves of dark figures. During his revenge mission, Siergiej fights both with bare fists and items found. The player has a classic set of punches at their disposal and performing each of them affects the enemy in a certain way. As any true degenerate, the anti-hero the player controls uses drugs and mysterious-looking syringes in order to replenish his energy.

Technical aspects

The game offers old-school visuals creating an atmosphere of gloomy locations associated with living in a communist country. However, the gameplay as such is complemented here by an intriguing, slightly psychotic soundtrack. The creators delivered the players with both singleplayer and co-op kinds of experience. Up to four players can meet in a session, assuming the roles of Siergiej's cell-mates.
