The mechanics in Children of Silentown, as in other adventure games, are based on exploring the environment, talking to the NPCs (humans and animals), looking for objects (which can then be combined to achieve a specific effect) and solving environmental puzzles. The developers focus on making the puzzles as ingenious and unique as possible. Music also plays an important role in the game - singing can help the heroine in critical situations.
The player can also perform side activities such as playing with other children in the village in free time. A cat will also stand in the way of the heroine, which will make her life difficult.
Children of Silentown has a two-dimensional, hand-drawn graphic design, which gives the game a darker atmosphere.

Even if it does get wrapped up in its own mechanics at times, Children of Silentown is a charmingly creepy point-and-click adventure with lots of lore and plenty of heart.

Children of Silentown delivers a compelling story told through stunning hand-drawn graphics and spearheaded by a hauntingly beautiful score that perfectly encapsulates the feelings of melancholy and dread that pervade Lucy's thoughts. Silentown's unique focus on discovering notes to uncover songs which can then be used to unlock puzzles provides a new dynamic to the point-and-click genre, and despite having gripes with one of the puzzle types, I still enjoyed my time unraveling the mystery of Silentown and the monsters that haunt it.
