My Hero Academia: Ultra Rumble is an online TPP action battle royale game based on the popular anime Boku no Hero Academia - heroes and villains from this game are playable characters in it (Izuku Midoriya, Shoto Todoroki, All Might, or Tomura Shigaraki, among others). Game was developed by Japanese studio Bandai Namco.

Game mechanics

Basic gameplay mechanics are not different from typical for this genre. Before the match, we choose a character and have a chance to get acquainted with his skills - unique for each hero. Then, together with other players in groups of three we go to the battle arena, to a chosen place, where we have to survive as long as possible - the last surviving team wins. The area of the game regularly decreases, and being outside the safe zone results in death.

The main pros of the game

  • Core Gameplay: The gameplay is described as fun and engaging, with unique character abilities that align well with their personalities from the anime. Team dynamics and character roles create an enjoyable experience.
  • Visuals and Performance: The game features appealing graphics that capture the anime's art style. It also boasts good netcode, allowing for smooth gameplay even in chaotic matches.
  • Character Variety: Players appreciate the diverse roster of characters, each with unique abilities, which adds depth to the gameplay.
  • Crossplay: The addition of crossplay has been positively received, allowing players from different platforms to compete together.

The main cons of the game

  • Gacha System: The monetization model is heavily criticized for being predatory and "pay-to-win." Many characters and abilities are locked behind a gacha system, making it difficult for free-to-play players to access content without spending significant money.
  • Balance Issues: There are complaints about character balancing, with newer characters often being overpowered compared to older ones. This creates a frustrating experience for players, especially newcomers.
  • Matchmaking Problems: Players report long wait times for matches and poor matchmaking that often pits inexperienced players against seasoned veterans.
  • Cheating: A significant number of players have encountered hackers, which undermines the competitive integrity of the game.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • Improved Character Unlocking: Many users desire a system that allows characters to be purchased directly rather than relying on random gacha pulls.
  • Better Balancing: There is a call for more frequent and effective balance patches to address the disparities between character strengths.
  • Enhanced Anti-Cheat Measures: Users are looking for a more robust anti-cheat system to reduce the number of hackers in matches.
  • More Content Variety: Players wish for more game modes and maps to keep the gameplay fresh and engaging, as the current offerings feel limited.
  • Quality of Life Improvements: Suggestions include a more streamlined tuning system and better communication from developers regarding updates and changes.

Summary

  • Overall, while "MY HERO ULTRA RUMBLE" has a solid foundation with enjoyable gameplay and character diversity, it is hampered by its monetization practices, balance issues, and technical problems that frustrate both new and returning players.
