The next installment of a sport game about ice hockey. The creators decided to increase production realism once again, using solutions used in other Electronic Arts games - FIFA and Fight Night. Among other things, the collision and combat system has been improved.
NHL 14 is the sequel to the widely recognized series of sports games dedicated to ice hockey. As always, the game was developed by one of the branches of EA Sports, and the game itself draws ideas and technology from other sports production of Electronic Arts.
The allows to manage one’s favorite team from the most popular hockey league in the world – NHL. The game is fully licensed, so fans of the sport can not only count on well-known players and teams, but also on the national teams and more.
NHL 14 offers many different game modes. In addition to the standard career options and multiplayer manager, it also introduces an improved version of the Be a Pro mode - Live the Life in which the player’s behavior has an impact on his or her opinion. Therefore, one not only has to do well on the ice, but also beyond. For this purpose, it is necessary to integrate with other players, give interviews and autographs, etc.
The developers from EA Sports used solutions that other sports productions of the company benefit from. Impact Engine was borrowed from the FIFA series, and Enforcer Engine from the Fight Night series. The application of these technologies allowed more accurate representation of collisions of players and improved the combat system. Also, more than 1,000 new animations for almost every aspect of the game were added – from driving on the sheet, through the clashes, to the so-called goal celebrations.
NHL 14 features improved controls which are more intuitive than in the previous games. The creators tried to build a system in such a way that new players are quickly acquainted with the nuances of the gameplay, and the old-timers are presented with an adequate challenge.
Graphic design was once again slightly improved, however, it does not differ significantly from the previous game. The matches look like what you see in the TV. The players move in a realistic way, and the character models are modeled on their real counterparts.
