Outriders: Worldslayer

Outriders: Worldslayer is the first big expansion for the Polish third-person shooter from 2021. It introduces a new story campaign, as well as quite a few changes regarding mechanics. As in the case of the main game, the title was developed by People Can Fly, a Polish studio, and published by Square Enix.

Plot

The campaign from the expansion takes place after the events from the main game, but it is not their direct continuation. Once again we face challenges on the planet Enoch, including again the catastrophic climate change. Our main opponent is Ereshkigal, known as the "First Altered", commander of a new faction of people calling themselves rebels. During the campaign we explore previously unseen corners of the world with a cold, harsh climate, filled with hordes of bloodthirsty monsters and humans.

Game mechanics

The game mechanics are the same as in the main game. We can use one of our existing characters in the extra campaign or create a new one (already at level 30), choosing from four available classes with unique skills. As we progress and gain experience points, we develop them and unlock new abilities. We also have to take care of proper equipment, gaining it from enemies and for completing missions or producing it.

The add-on also introduces some fresh mechanics. These include new skill trees with two branches for each class. Interestingly, pax points are required to unlock their hubs, earned not with experience points, but with overall progress, after certain events in the campaign.

Worldslayer also makes the long-term gameplay more attractive by adding a progression system (Ascension) unlocked after reaching the maximum character level, which allows to freely increase the hero's power in four categories. The maximum Ascension level is 200, and gaining it takes over 100 hours and allows you to fully develop each of the available options.

The expansion also introduces additional difficulty levels (40 instead of the previous 15), called apocalypse levels, also to the campaign from the base game. On the higher of these, the gameplay is more challenging, but also provides more rewards, including apocalyptic equipment (only obtainable on enemies), having three modification slots instead of two.

The final stage of the game (endgame) was also expanded in the add-on. It takes us to the cradle of the Pax civilization, the ancient city of Tarya Gratar, where we are put to the test of the same name.

Game modes

As in the case of the main game, we can play the add-on solo or in co-op with up to two friends.
