A first person perspective adventure game (FPP) by Matthew C Cohen. The player takes on the role of Mattel Clark, an artist whose home is full of supernatural forces. The protagonist decides to document supernatural phenomena with a camera.
Paranormal is the work of American game designer Matthew C Cohen. The author was inspired by horror movies with action shown by a hand-held camera lens, including The Blair Witch Project series and Paranormal Activity.
The main character of the game is the artist Mattel Clark. In his house there is an unexpected manifestation of supernatural forces. Although beings not from this world apparently do not want his presence, the man decides to document with a camera the strange phenomena he observes in his surroundings.
The game is set for exploration. Playing the role of the main character, the player wanders through the rooms of the house and its surroundings, experiencing new ways of interaction of supernatural forces (e.g. spontaneously moving objects, appearing inscriptions on walls, footprints, phantoms) every now and then.
The action is shown from the perspective of an amateur camera lens, hence a slightly blurred and trembling image, momentary distortions of vision, but also the possibility of infrared observation. The algorithm prepared by the creator on the one hand provides a multitude of randomly generated events, and on the other hand it takes into account the actions taken by the player.
From the technical point of view, the game is based on the capabilities of the free Unreal Development Kit technology. Visual binding Paranormal does not impress with details, but the skillful use of chiaroscuro and dark atmosphere successfully allow you to forget about the shortcomings of graphics. The whole experience is complemented by a disturbing soundtrack.
