An unusual coop-focused TPP shooter, marketed as a combination of Gears of War and the Overcooked series. In Pizza Bandit, we play as a mercenary who also wants to run his own pizza restaurant. We travel through time, complete tasks and eliminate enemies, but also prepare meals and gradually learn how to cook.
Gears of War and Overcooked are series that at first glance are hard to put side by side. The South Korean studio JofSoft decided to draw inspirations from both of them. The combination of characteristic elements of them resulted in the game Pizza Bandit, which is a shooter enriched with the necessity of preparing dishes.
In Pizza Bandit we watch the action from a third-person perspective (TPP).
The game transports us to a science fiction universe and allows us to embody a mercenary named Malik, who dreams of opening his own pizzeria. To accomplish this, the protagonist uses his skills and takes on tasks involving time travel and eliminating hordes of enemies. In the meantime, the hero is also learning how to cook.
The pillar of the game are missions that take us to different places and eras. We have various goals to achieve there, and numerous enemies to overcome. We eliminate opponents using a wide range of weapons (firearms and melee) and gadgets. Given that travels educate, along the way we must learn to cook, preparing dishes such as sushi, steaks or grilled chicken.
Simultaneous fighting and cooking requires us to divide our attention. Enemies can attack at any moment, so by focusing too much on the contents of pots and pans, we risk a lot. It's still worth it, as we gain culinary experience and also unlock recipes for our restaurant.
This is not the end, because as we progress, we also unlock new arsenal and upgrades for the equipment we already have. We can also collect cosmetic additions that allow us to stand out from other mercenaries.
What's most important - by completing tasks, we earn credits, which we can spend on furniture, kitchen equipment, lighting or restaurant decorations. It serves as our safe haven and is a place where we can prepare pizzas that provide us with various bonuses.
Pizza Bandit can be experienced alone, but the game was designed primarily with cooperative online gameplay in mind, allowing for up to 4 people to play together. A so-called friendly fire has been implemented, and since the difficulty level adjusts to the number of participants in the game, the key to success is coordination of actions.
