Spin-off of Dead Island series, created in the convention of MOBA game (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena). Dead Island: Epidemic was developed by the Swedish studio Stunlock, which previously created Bloodline Champions. The title is set in the universe known from the cult Legacy of Kain series, although the story is unrelated to the previous games. The game was created by a small studio Psyonix, who worked on the multiplayer modes for games like Bulletstorm, Gears of War, or Mass Effect 3. In the game you can play as either a human or a vampire, fighting in a war for control over the world.

The demon invasion of Hammerfall brings an intervention from the Holy Falcon Empire, whose ruler wants to use it as a chance to instigate a rebellion and possess the arcane knowledge and abilities of the Hammerfall smiths.
