Radical Heights is the second game developed by Boss Key Productions after the 2017 shooter LawBreakers. This time around, the developers led by Cliff Bleszinski (the co-creator of the Gears of War and Unreal Tournament series) decided to face the popular battle royale formula. The game is based on free-to-play business model.
The action of Radical Heights is set in the sunny SoCal, where one fight other players in battle royale matches. The players are dispatched to a large map, and their first task is to find necessary gear, most importantly weapons scattered around buildings, carried by enemies one has to eliminate and, unusually for this kind of a game, purchased at special vending machines for money earned during previous matches. The in-game currency can also be spent on cosmetics, thus the player has to choose whether to invest in his or her character's appearance or easier start in the upcoming match.
Players observe the action from the third-person perspective (TPP). The gameplay is wacky, arcade and dynamic. The game features 1980's atmosphere, thus instead of cars, players can use BMX bikes to move around the map, jump on trampolines, and throw confetti bombs.
Radical Heights features not only unusual gameplay and equally original visuals. The game is full of colors – characters wear colorful shirts, short pants, and shoes. Their hairstyles are also extravagant – from long hair and ponytails to afro.
