An alien invasion may lead to the annihilation of mankind. An armada of star destroyers has already conquered a significant part of the planet. However, the situation is not hopeless, because the player appears on the horizon, armed with a modern fighter called Raiden, and will challenge the enemy forces.

As in most games of this type, Raiden is a port of a shooter from arcade machines, in which the only task is to destroy the enemy ships appearing in large numbers, while being careful not to let the enemy ships kill us. The game offers a view from above, just like in the iconic River Raid or the well-known Raptor: Call of the Shadows. Initially, our fighter is equipped with basic means of destruction, a cannon and a bomb launcher, capable of destroying all enemy units on the screen. As more opponents are annihilated, various bonuses will drop from some vehicles, mainly increasing the power of our arsenal.

Raiden is not an easy game. One shot is enough to send our pilot to the other side. Fortunately, the devs provided the player with a set of additional lives - their number depends on the level of difficulty chosen at the beginning. Achieving success in Raiden will require solid training - there are a lot of enemies, tough enemies appear from the very beginning, and a hail of projectiles will be sent in our direction all the time. The dynamic action goes hand in hand with the other advantages of the game - decent visuals. Unfortunately, the devs did not implement an option to listen to music and sound effects at the same time. In the menu we can choose only one option, which slightly impoverishes the whole thing in terms of experience. It is also worth noting that Raiden can be played by two people at once, which is equals double the destruction.

On March 27, 2007, the refreshed version of Raiden released as part of the Arcade Hits series appeared in a digital distribution on the Japanese PlayStation Network.
