PC version of a hilarious platformer, which had its debut on mobile devices running on Android or iOS. The game was recognized by iTunes App Store as 2012 game of the year. The title is a spin-off in a popular series of platform games, which dates back to the mid-90s. Since then, the series – invariably belonging to Ubisoft company – saw releases on almost every platform.
In Jungle Run you assume control over Rayman himself or his friend Globox. There are 70 fabulously colorful levels, located in 7 different worlds. The gameplay mainly focuses on running through consecutive levels, and collecting funny yellow flies, called lums, scattered around the game’s world, as well as other bonuses. Your hero has a variety of abilities, such as jumping, floating, running along the walls, or crashing obstacles. These skills are acquired as you progress in the game, and with them the difficulty of the game increases – which means ever more difficult obstacles and opponents.
Individual levels are relatively short and finishing them should cause little trouble even for the less able players. The main goal, however, is to get the highest possible score in each level, which depends, among other things, on time and collectibles gathered. Thus, each level can be replayed many times in order to master it to perfection and ever improve your results. The best players are signed into online scoreboard and are rewarded with access to a hidden world under a self-explanatory name of Land of the Livid Dead.
Rayman Jungle Run is based on UbiArt Framework engine, used, among others, in the two latest installments in the series. The graphics is gleefully colorful and shares a vibe distinctive of the entire series. The gameplay is also accompanied by ear-pleasing music and hilarious sounds. Windows 8 version of the game has touch screens support, although you can optionally use mouse for control. Xbox Live integration allows for cross-platform gaming between people playing on a PC with Windows 8 and Windows Phone owners, and also offers a vast number of achievements to unlock.
