Redline: Xtreme Air Racing 2 is an air racing game in which we compete with other competitors in the cockpit on the skies. The races themselves take place over eight laps of 5 kilometres each, with up to 16 participants controlled by computer A.I. or eight players in multiplayer mode. In the game we have access to several game modes: single race (Single Race), free flight (Free Flight), season (Race Season) and combat mode. The competition takes place in places such as the USA, Alps, England and the Arctic and islands of south-east Asia. We can choose between 70 distinguishable planes (e.g. F4U Corsair, Hawker Seafury, P-51 Mustang, F8 Bearcat, P-38 Lightning), including dozens of World War II models, and each of them can be modified to a large extent (e.g. engine change). The planes were divided into several groups: Unlimited (speeds above 500mph), Formula 1 (speeds around 300mph) and AT-6 and Biplane (speeds oscillating within 230mph). Importantly, each machine has a specific guidance model that seems to reproduce its actual behaviour in the skies. An interesting novelty, in comparison to the previous part of the game, is the combat mode, which allows to conduct duels between planes armed with machine guns. We also deserve praise for the well realized feeling of speed and photo-realistic elements of the environment. The game also presents an attractive built-in encyclopedia of the machines in the game, with their history and detailed technical data. Breathtaking races, commented Gordon Bowman-Jones, a well-known aviation event commentator.
