Reptiles: In Hunt is a game developed by a small Polish studio Corpix Games. The gameplay revolves around survival mechanics in a world overrun by dinosaurs. Considerable attention was paid to the construction of the world and telling its story through the design of the locations.

Plot

The most important storylines are rescuing the protagonist's son and learning about the fate of a world overrun for 200 years by dinosaurs. At the very beginning of the game, we learn that the Reptilians, who control the dinosaurs, have been preparing their attack for thousands of years to adapt Earth to their needs, and now they are burning human settlements and kidnapping children to turn them into humanoid reptiles. Most of the information is given to us through environmentall storytelling, but there are occasional cinematics or dialogues with other characters.

Mechanics

In Reptiles: In Hunt we will find most of the game mechanics typical for survival games and some specific to this title. The protagonist has health and condition bars, which decrease when we get injured or perform exhausting activities. We replenish them by eating food and special plants, separately or by combining them to obtain more efficient specifics. While exploring the map we also collect other resources used for crafting. Among the items we will have to produce there are new weapons, elements of clothing or tools, increasing our chances for survival. We have limited control over the environment, such as shooting down objects to clear a path or crush an enemy.

In battles, we use melee or ranged weapons. The main character's basic equipment includes two kukri, but you can only fight with one of them, freeing up space in your other hand, and a bow, which can shoot several types of projectiles. The enemies are varied and use different tactics during the fight. Not all dinosaurs are aggressive - we have to provoke some herbivores to make them pay attention to us. You can also climb on the largest reptiles to injure them in more vulnerable places.

Exploration of the area is made easier with a special drone. Its use is limited by the battery, which needs to be replenished from time to time, but in return it shows the items in the area. The main character, as a hunter, is very agile and can climb on terrain obstacles, swim and dive. He is given not only the jungle-covered surface of the globe to explore, but also various underground locations such as underground ruins and caves. A compass at the top of the screen helps you estimate the protagonist's position on the map.

The entire game is observed from a third-person perspective.

Technical aspects

Due to the studio's limited resources, graphics and animations are not the greatest, but the variety of dinosaurs and the locations are noteworthy.
