RIFT: Storm Legion PC

Storm Legion for PC is the first expansion pack for an MMORPG known as RIFT. The expansion requires the player to have the base game installed. Storm Legion was developed by Trion World Network.

Mechanics

The expansion introduces two completely new continents – each of them is as large as their equivalent from the core version of RIFT. As a result, the game world becomes three times larger once Storm Legion is installed. Dusken is the first of said continents – it is a gloomy place, which in terms of the atmosphere resembles more a horror scenery than typical fantasy-like setting. When exploring these areas, the player will get acquainted mainly with the story of Regulos – a divine dragon that has come from a dimension of the dead. The other continent is known as Brevane, and the atmosphere gets brighter here. Above all, one will find the Eternal City in Brevane, which is the cradle of the Telarans, as a civilization. Among the new locations introduced, the player will also find the Tempest Bay, which is the metropolis serving the role of the base for both of the playable factions, namely the Guardians and the Defiant. Both Dusken and Brevane offer an extensive story that is conveyed both through individual missions and events involving entire lands and all the players remaining here. The expansion is made cohesive by a story of Crucia, who is the Queen of Storms wishing to bring her loyal legions into the world of Telara.

In the core RIFT, one of the most important elements of the character development system is the usage of souls and Storm Legion adds new kinds of those, which results in some fresh gameplay mechanics being introduced. Furthermore level cap was raised to 60. New dungeons were added, two additional raids and one Chronicle, which is a type of a dungeon focusing on plot-related aspects. New events were brought by the expansion as well. Among those, the most impressive are encounters with a monster called the Colossus, which is a hundred times larger than the player-controlled characters. As a result, the creature can break through walls, climb bridges and pull off different things one could previously consider non-existent in the MMORPG genre. What is also worth mentioning, is the introduction of private dimensions for individual players and their teams. Thanks to those, one can take over buildings and locations without consequences for the game world.
