Rosewater is another point-and-click adventure game set in the 19th century, following Lamplight City. It was created by the independent studio Grundislav Games. The story is loosely related to the studio's previous game. It focuses on a six-person expedition in search of gold.

Story

The main character of Rosewater is the experienced writer Harley Leger, arrives in a sleepy town in western Vespucci. After accepting a position at a local newspaper, she is given the task of conducting an interview with a man known as Gentleman Jake, who has come to town to showcase his alleged heroic feats. Jake offers the woman a much more exciting job: he is on the trail of a huge amount of hidden gold and is looking for people willing to accompany him on the expedition.

The main cons of the game

  • Pacing Issues: Some players feel the beginning is slow and that the middle section, which focuses on traveling and random encounters, can drag on and feel disconnected from the main plot.
  • Simplicity of Puzzles: While many enjoyed the puzzles, some found them too easy or lacking challenge, leading to a feeling that the game is more of a visual novel than a traditional adventure game.
  • Character Relationships: There are mixed feelings about the relationship system; some players found it unclear and not well-explained in-game, making it difficult to navigate.
  • Filler Content: Certain side quests and encounters were viewed as unnecessary or lacking relevance to the main story, which could detract from the overall pacing.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • Hint System: Players noted the absence of a hint button or system, which could help during challenging puzzles.
  • Fast Travel Options: Some suggested the inclusion of a quick travel feature to reduce time spent moving between locations, which can feel tedious.
  • More Detailed Relationship Tracking: A clearer explanation of how player choices affect relationships with companions would enhance player understanding and engagement.
  • Additional Gameplay Mechanics: Some users expressed a desire for more varied gameplay elements, such as mini-games or more complex puzzles, to provide additional depth and challenge.

Summary

  • Overall, "Rosewater" is well-received for its storytelling and character depth but has room for improvement in pacing and puzzle complexity.
