Gears 5 Hivebusters is the first expansion to the fifth installment of the Gears series from Xbox Game Studios, taking place in the Galanga Islands, in which we take part in a secret operation, playing the role of a heroes from Escape Mode.
Gears 5 - Hivebusters is a paid expansion that enriches the feature campaign with an additional about 3-hour scenario, focusing on three characters known from the Escape mode. Additionally, we can use the ultimate skills and new achievements.
The action is set in the volcanic area of Galanga. This is where Lahni, Keegan or Mac are sent to the first secret operation under the Hivebusters programme. Although the mission is suicidal, because the Scorpio team's task is to destroy the Swarm's hive, its completion may save Sera.
The gameplay has not changed since the main game, except for the fact that the expansion gives us the opportunity to use and improve the powerful ultimate skills that were previously not available in story mode.
The expansion is designed for single player gameplay and for up to three people in online co-op mode.
In order to launch Hivebusters it is necessary to have a basic version of the game - Gears 5 and a profile in Xbox.com. In addition, thanks to the expansion, there are new achievements.

Apart from a few inconsistencies with the relationships between its main characters, Hivebusters does everything a great Gears game should and then some.

If you liked the main campaign of Gears 5, then Gears 5: Hivebusters brings even more to enjoy. Fast action is offset by surprisingly introspective character development, all in a jaw-droppingly gorgeous jungle setting.

Hivebusters has an appropriate level of difficulty for returning Gears 5 fans. The South Islands are so beautiful that although Gears 5 is clearly extremely action-heavy, they’re simply asking for a fleshed-out photo mode. I had a few checkpoint issues, but nothing game-breaking. Scorpio Squad is a big draw of Hivebusters as the trio is composed of relatable and funny characters. Hivebusters feels like a proper expansion pack to Gears 5 rather than a tacked-on DLC that was really just removed from the main game. The Coalition clearly put a lot of work into this add-on. Though it doesn’t feel like that full step forward that a sequel would be, Hivebusters remains a robust experience and an essential one for Gears fans.
