Shadows on the Vatican is an episodic adventure point ‘n’ click game loosely based on a bestseller novel by David Yallop called In God’s Name. It was developed by 10th Art Studio.
The players assume the role of an American named James Murphy, a former priest, who received a disturbing message one day. His old friend who lives in Rome ran into serious trouble and Murphy is the only person who can help him. Once he arrived at Rome, James uncovered that somebody had stolen a suitcase full of documents incriminating the Church, and Vatican will stop at nothing to reclaim it. During his adventure, Murphy not only shall face a huge conspiracy, but also deal with questions that are going to shake everything he believes in.
Shadows on the Vatican is a classic point ‘n’ click adventure game. Most of the time, we search subsequent locations, gather various items, have conversations and solve puzzles. Each episode lets us visit at least ten extensive places and provides a few hours of gameplay.
The game’s graphics combine very detailed 2D backgrounds with 3D characters, whose realistic animation was achieved thanks to the motion capture technology. Shadows on the Vatican natively supports a maximum screen resolution of 1920 x 1080. Lorenzo Ruggiero, a recognized cartoonist who has previously worked for such comic book companies as Marvel Comics and DC Comics, was the artistic director of the team working on the game.
