PS4

Shiny for PS4, XONE and PC is a standard platformer game set in a science-fiction world. The game was created by Garage 227 - an independent Brazilian studio established in 2014; the popular 1C Company took on the role of the publisher.

Plot

Shiny for PS4, XONE and PC is set on a fictitious planet Aurora, which is heading towards an inevitable catastrophe – a collision with its sun. The player assumes the role of a sympathetic robot called Kramer 227, which is one of the machines left behind by humans because they lacked enough energy needed for being able to escape from a dying planet. However, Kramer does not accept their fate and sets out for a journey filled with adventures. The robot's aim is to save its very "self" along with the existences of their fellow mechanicals.

Mechanics

Shiny for PS4, XONE and PC is a standard platformer game requiring the player to jump across platforms and avoid traps and different dangers, all of which are encountered throughout twenty different levels in total. The player has a specific goal here however, which is to save all the robots encountered. Thus the player is obliged to gather energy left in batteries and generators scattered throughout the maps. Then the energy is given to other mechanicals the player encounters. These two gameplay elements are tightly interconnected here and performing an action results in energy loss each time. The energy used has to be replenished afterwards during exploration. Fortunately however, the player benefits from different power-ups on their path, such as jetpacks, energy balls or temperature regulators, which make the player's job much easier.

Technical aspects

Shiny offers visuals typical for modern-day 2D platformers, combining styles classic for the genre with both modern-day PCs' and consoles' capabilities. Because the game was based on the concept of saving others' lives (though robotic ones here), the player does not witness any violence in Shiny, contrary to most contemporary games, which makes Shiny a perfect game for younger players.
