WayTooManyGames: 9 / 10 by Andrew Camac

As someone who prides himself on loving boomer shooters, I wanted to love the original SPRAWL, but it just didn’t hit the right notes for me personally. SPRAWL Zero, on the other hand, was such a pleasant surprise. It hit every note, invented a few new ones, and then cranked the volume all the way up to 11, delivering a heavy metal opera of death in the process. More importantly, it serves as a welcome reminder that the FPS genre is much broader than Modern Warfare and movement shooters like Doom Eternal.

Minimap: 3.5 / 5 by Shawn Robinson

While diehard FPS fans and newcomers to the series may feel miffed by its failings, Sprawl Zero still displays a skillful approach to its breadth that makes it just as much of a meaningful departure as it is a bloody visceral romp.

SPRAWL zero is a first-person shooter inspired by the golden age of early-2000s console gaming, combining nostalgic Y2K aesthetics with fast-paced combat, intelligent enemies and a gritty cyberpunk setting. Drawing inspiration from classics such as F.E.A.R. and Halo, it aims to capture the spirit of an era when the FPS genre was expanding beyond corridors into more ambitious, immersive worlds. Players step into the role of FIVE, a cybernetically enhanced supersoldier under the control of the Junta, tasked with eliminating SILAS, the leader of the radical techno-religious group IMAGO-DEI. As the city descends into chaos, FIVE must navigate a dangerous web of competing factions, uncovering the truth while fighting to survive.
