The never-released third installment in the Star Wars Battlefront series, developed by Free Radical Design. Star Wars: Battlefront III was supposed to allow for seamless transitions from planetary surfaces to their orbits. In addition to multiplayer, it was intended to offer a full-fledged story campaign.
Free Radical Design is a development studio that gained worldwide recognition for the console shooter series titled TimeSplitters. Between 2006 and 2008, in collaboration with LucasArts, they were working on the third installment of the Star Wars: Battlefront series. This project never officially saw the light of day, as it was canceled in October 2008.
In Star Wars: Battlefront III, the action was to be viewed from either a third-person (TPP) or first-person (FPP) perspective.
The cornerstone of this production was to be taking part in large-scale multiplayer battles. On the battlefield, players would take on the roles of both regular units equipped with blasters and heroes and villains known from the films, including Darth Vader.
The game was intended to stand out from previous installments of the series and other similar titles by allowing simultaneous battles on planetary surfaces, in the air, and in orbit. The creators wanted to enable players to pilot fighters and transition seamlessly from planets to space and vice versa without loading screens.
In addition to the multiplayer mode, Star Wars: Battlefront III was supposed to offer a full-fledged story campaign.
Based on a playable version of the game's code, which eventually ended up in the hands of various players, an initiative was launched to create a fan remake. This ultimately transformed into an entirely new production, Galaxy in Turmoil, set in a completely original science fiction universe.
