Star Wars: Starfighter Special Edition is an improved version of the game, which was originally created exclusively for PlayStation 2 owners. The changes are quite big. These include both the appearance of the individual game components and the quality of the audiovisual setting. Preparation of this conversion is the responsibility of the Secret Level development studio, which also developed the Xbox version of the continuation of the game (Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter), as well as such games as Magic: The Gathering - Battlegrounds, or America's Army: Rise of a Soldier.

This product, like the version released on PlayStation 2, refers very clearly to the events presented in the first episode of "Star Wars", i.e. the "Dark Spectre". The player meets three different heroes - Rhys Dallow, Vana Sage and Nym. It is worth mentioning here that each of these characters uses different types of spacecraft. However, the player cannot influence this choice, because each mission of the game is assigned a strictly defined hero. In the further part of the game there is a possibility of exchanging currently owned ships for better ones. Generally, however, Starfighter does not give much scope for action. The game resembles more a typical arcade than a fully fledged space simulator.

The producer has prepared 14 different missions, connected with each other by a plot. What is interesting, between the stages we can see superbly realized cut-scenes. As far as missions are concerned, we deal with the elimination of targets (above the surfaces of planets and in space), as well as the protection of allies. One of the basic differences between PS2 and Xbox versions concerns adding new multiplayer modes. There are as many as five of them in the Microsoft console version. And they are: Capture the Flag, Dogfight (one per one duel), Tagus (berka game), Hunter and Steal the Beacon. The changes also included the quality and smoothness of the graphics display. This can be seen in particular in the battleships of ship models.
