Star Wars: The Old Republic - The Rise of the Hutt Cartel is first paid expansion to this MMORPG placed in the Star Wars universe. The game itself and this add-on were created by the BioWare studio which gave the world such series as Baldur's Gate, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age. SWTOR stands out from other MMORPGs by its strong emphasis on the narrative layer which most of the title of this genre treat with neglect. Similarly, this add-on, in addition to new places to explore, enemies to defeat, and equipment to get, offers another storyline expansion of the universe created by George Lucas.
The action focuses on the Hutt Cartel, a criminal organization led by as ambitious as ugly race of overgrown snails. Bipolar structure of the galaxy which is dominated by eternally warring Republic and the Empire clearly is not to the Huttomís liking because they decided to take advantage of the growing conflict between the factions in order to create their own supreme empire that rules the galaxy. Of course, the task of the player, regardless of affiliation, is to stop the imperialist tendencies of the Cartel.
The Hutt Cartelís activities are focused on a previously unknown planet, Makeba. It is the place that the players taking part in the adventure visit. On its surface, they can find fresh challenges in the form of new enemies and side quests. These are a good opportunity to improve the skills of oneís character for the experience limit was raised from level 50 to 55. Just as it was in the original game, all the dialogues in the expansion are fully voiced.
