Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is an action jRPG with a story inspired by the events of the first game in the series, but not a direct continuation. In the game we play as three heroes who have unique abilities and play a key role in the storyline. Game was created by Team Ninja, known mainly from NiOh.
The story of the game tells about three men who, after a long journey, finally reached their destination: Chaos Chapel. Now, after crossing its gates, they have to fight against Chaos - the main antagonist of the first part. At the same time they will have to face the doubt if they are really the Warriors of Light who were destined by an ancient prophecy to defeat Chaos.
The characters differ from each other and have specific roles in the team. The leader of the team is Jack, who believes that it is his duty to defeat Chaos. During his battles with the monsters that stand in his way, he shows them no mercy. He is an idol to Jed, a kind and good-natured boy with great physical strength. The last of the three is Ash, a poised muscle man who trusts Jack implicitly. During the struggle, their personalities complement each other, making the trio a very harmonious team.
We observe the whole game from third party perspective. The main element of the game is arcade combat, focused on making the longest and most impressive combos. While defeating opponents and exploring locations we gain new equipment and upgrades, which are used to customize our play style. We increase stats and use new active skills, such as ranged attacks or placing a shield in front of the character for protection.
We receive experience points for killing enemies - when we reach a new level, we get the opportunity to buy one of the abilities divided into two categories (swordsman and mage), within which there are several trees with different skills available. Each of the encountered opponents has its own condition meter, reduced by us through the appropriate pace of performing attacks. When we get rid of the opponent's stamina, we get the option to perform a critical blow - in many cases, it means the death of the creature.
Exploring available locations, from time to time we come across special balls that serve as control points. The mechanics of rebirth of opponents inspired by souls-like games has been used here, so we should wisely choose the moment when we use these balls.
The game was based on Team Ninja's proprietary technology, also used in the NiOh series. This resulted in high character responsiveness and extensive lighting effects.
