Valkyrie Elysium is a jRPG that is a part of the series started in 1999 by Valkyrie Profile. The game was developed by Soleil studio, the authors of Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time and Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker.
Player takes on the role of the Valkyrie, who is sent to a fantasy world heading for destruction. Her goal is to discover what is the cause of the coming Ragnarok and recruit warriors to help her in this task.
Valkyrie Elysium is an action RPG. We explore the world, develop our characters, complete tasks and, above all, fight with the help of a highly arcade combat system.
The key role is played by recruiting Einherjars - fallen warriors who can be summoned during the battles.
It is worth noting that in contrast to previous installments, in which we could move only in two dimensions, Valkyrie Elysium allows free exploration of the three-dimensional world. This is very important in the gameplay, not only during the fight, but also during the journey, as it enriches it with platforming elements.
The game features a single player mode only.
Valkyrie Elysium offers fully three-dimensional visuals, done in a slightly cartoonish style. Yuya Nagai, who had the same role in NieR: Automata and Granblue Fantasy Versus, was responsible for the character designs.
An important piece of information for fans of the brand will be the fact that the music was composed by Motoi Sakuraba, the composer of soundtracks for previous installments of the brand.

Valkyrie Elysium is an enjoyable action RPG packed full of combos and upgrades, but the boring levels and story detract from the fun.

While some elements of Valkyrie Elysium are disappointingly lackluster, in the end, the combat is excellent. That alone was enough to keep me engaged through the game’s dozen or so hours. I have a pretty long wish list for future games, like more impressive visual design and more interesting missions. But the real-time action? It’s a keeper.

I was excited going into Valkyrie Elysium because of what I had heard about the series. While after my time with it that excitement certainly has dulled, not because of the combat but just because everything around it just kind of felt ‘meh’. If the world was more populated or at the very least more interesting there would be much more here to really sink one’s teeth into, as it stands once players are done doing Odin’s bidding they will find little reason to return in my opinion.
