Online action game from an independent Venril studio, in which we face real or computer opponents in arenas from the fantasy world. However, instead of a simple elimination of enemies, we focus on gathering as much wealth as possible.
Super Treasure Arena is a two-dimensional shooter with fantasy elements, which is an expansion of the browser-based Treasure Arena developed by Vennril. The title was published by Headup Games, which released The Bridge Constuctor series and Grimmwood: They Come at Night.
Mechanics
Super Treasure Arena uses the classic arena shooter formula, but with significant modifications. The players hit one of six maps full of treasures and monsters, and their task is to collect as many treasures as possible. The shooting itself resembles the solution used in Enter the Gungeon, with the action shown from above.
There are five character classes to choose from: warrior, mage, villain, mystic, and ninja. Each of them has hand-to-hand combat weapons and a unique special ability, and in the arenas, you can find additional weaponry, such as bows and bombs. All this needs to be used to beat skeletons, bats, sludge and other beasts, which drop gold coins and healing potions when defeated. We can also attack other participants of the game, but each death is associated with the loss of equipment and some of the riches.
Game modes
Super Treasure Arena offers two modes: Classic and Treasure Run. The first one is a standard battle in the arena and collection of loot, while in the second the devs added the necessity to deliver the accumulated wealth to the base. The title enables us to play with AI-controlled opponents, but the main attraction is the ability to challenge other players in online or local multiplayer mode (in the latter case on a split-screen).
Technical aspects
The team at Vennril decided to use old school audiovisuals. Simple, pixel-shaped graphics are kept in cartoonish style and look decent, and heroic music keeps the blood pumping in combat.
