Tales of is one of the longer-developed series of jRPG games, whose roots date back to 1995. Released in 2016, Tales of Berseria was its sixteenth installment. Years later, Bandai Namco Entertainment, the company behind it, decided to prepare a remastered version of it, signed by D.A.G. (Digital Artist Guild) studio from Japan.

New features in the remaster

Tales of Berseria Remastered brings gameplay improvements, led by target markers that make it easier to complete missions. In addition, the title allows you to disable encounters with enemies, so players who only want to explore the story don't have to bother with clashes.

In addition, the game implements a selection of DLCs released for the original, among which we can find both additional equipment and bonus outfits for characters.

Tales of Berseria Remake is a welcome release to update the greatest tale of the Tales series to the modern settings. However, unlike the previous Tales remakes, the additions are empty beyond the addition of the DLCs. Still, it's worth purchasing if only to get a higher quality version of one of the greatest titles of the series.

Digital Chumps: 7 / 10 by Will Silberman

On the PlayStation 5, Tales of Berseria feels less like a traditional remaster and more like a simple port. While it remains an excellent game in its own right (and perhaps one of the best in the Tales series), the struggle is real in recommending it to those who can simply play the PS4 version and not feel like they're missing out on anything novel. Good news for other platforms, though: You're now able to play Berseria on the Switch and XBOX for the first time.

Gaming Boulevard: 6 / 10 by Lander Van der Biest

Tales of Berseria Remastered brings one of the best stories in the franchise to modern consoles, but the Nintendo Switch version never quite feels like a true remaster. Content-wise, there are some welcome quality-of-life improvements, yet graphical hiccups and a capped framerate prevent it from fully living up to that label. It’s still one of the strongest stories the series has to offer, but sadly not the best remaster.
