Teslagrad Remastered is a remastered version of the warmly received platformer with puzzle and adventure game elements from 2013. It was developed by Rain Games, the independent studio responsible for the first game, and released alongside the series' second installment.

Plot

Teslagrad Remastered is set in an alternate, steampunk version of Europe, more specifically - in the fictional Kingdom of Elektropia, ruled by a cruel tyrant. The game's playable character, a young boy, escapes a manhunt to the abandoned Tesla Tower, where technological wizards known as Teslamancers once used to reside. In order to reach the top, he must master the forgotten art of Teslamancy.

  • Responsive Controls: Players appreciate the controls, which are described as responsive, allowing for precise movements essential for the gameplay.
  • Short but Engaging: Many players find the game to be a fun, albeit brief, experience, with an average completion time of around 3-8 hours depending on the player's exploration and collectible hunting.
  • Challenging Puzzles: The puzzles are noted for being clever and well-designed, providing a good balance of challenge without being overly simplistic.

The main cons of the game

  • Frustrating Boss Fights: Many players express frustration with the boss battles, which require precise timing and can lead to instant deaths, making them feel punishing and tedious.
  • Difficulty Balance Issues: The game is criticized for being overly difficult, particularly for players who may not enjoy challenging platformers, leading to frustration rather than enjoyment.
  • Lack of Narrative Depth: The minimalist storytelling approach, while appreciated by some, leaves many players feeling disconnected from the characters and plot, as there is minimal dialogue or character development.
  • Respawn Times: Although respawn times are generally quick, the delay after dying can add to the frustration during challenging sections.
  • Lack of Guidance: Players note the absence of hints or guidance for puzzles and collectibles, making some segments feel obscure and requiring external resources to complete.

The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users

  • More Robust Narrative: Players desire a deeper story with character development and clearer context, as the current minimalist approach leaves much to be interpreted.
  • Improved Boss Design: Suggestions for better-designed boss fights that fit more cohesively within the puzzle-platforming framework of the game.
  • Quality of Life Improvements: Many players mention the need for better map functionalities, clearer objectives, and overall polish in gameplay mechanics to enhance the user experience.

  • Additional Health or Checkpoints: Some players suggest that having additional health points or more frequent checkpoints could alleviate the frustration associated with difficult sections and boss fights.

Summary

  • Overall, while Teslagrad Remastered is celebrated for its artistic and mechanical strengths, it faces criticism for its difficulty, particularly in boss encounters, and for its narrative execution.
