The Curse of Nordic Cove is an unprecedented mix of genres, proposed to us by an independent studio On The Level from Texas. In this single production we can easily find elements of action games, sports games, logical games, racing and arcade games. We'll have to play golf, drive different vehicles, sneak, explore dungeons and fight against bosses - despite the fact that all this at once seems almost impossible to reconcile.
The game tells the story of a group of friends who are imprisoned in a golf club, built, as it turns out, on the grounds of a former Viking cemetery. The angry spirits of Nordic warriors rise from the graves to punish those who dared to desecrate their resting place. Players play the roles of Pauli Chops and his companions, trying to stop the curse of demonic Helfdane.
The general concept of the game resembles a typical survival horror. History is divided into eight chapters, each of which is governed by its own, different rules. We also control different playable heroes in each of them. The first stages of the game are a combination of a typical FPS shooter and golf. Due to the place where the action takes place, we are forced to repel attacks using golf clubs and the innovative "Golf Ball Gun". Later in the game we will have to solve a number of puzzles, fight behind the wheel of a golf cart, eliminate werewolves with the help of the Doom chainsaw guna series, and finally visit a dark tomb using techniques derived from typical "sneaky" games. As in any survival horror game we must not forget about the decreasing with every attack of the opponent's health bar, because losing life in The Curse of Nordic Cove is not at all difficult.
The game's graphic design, slightly reminiscent of console titles for Nintendo 64, leaves a lot to be desired, and quite frequent bugs make gameplay very difficult. The sound side looks a bit better.
