Fellowship of the Ring is Beam Software's second game after The Hobbit, referring to the work of J.R.R. Tolkien. This time the authors were kidnapped for the writer's most outstanding work - The Lord of the Rings. Similarly to the original, the game is a text adventure, coloured from time to time with simple drawings.

The game is divided into two separate parts. In the first of them, we choose the characters (Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin), then, holding a ring in hand, we set off from Hobbiton on a dangerous expedition, hooking on the Old Forest, Bree and other places known from the book's original. The game ends with the attack of Black Riders who want to recover the title Ring. The second part of the program begins with a visit to Rivendell, during which a nine-person team will be formed. Its task is to reach the banks of the river Anduina.

All messages in the game will be received in text form (images appearing from time to time are only an addition). The text also gives the heroes more commands, so in order to fully enjoy the program, you need at least an average knowledge of the English language. The choice of character at the beginning of the game is marginal, because the rest of the team will follow us faithfully step by step. At this point it should be noted that the other heroes are not just the fifth wheel of the cart. The player can give them commands at any time, for example, ordering them to take an object or attack an unfriendly creature.

Although Fellowship of the Ring does not wash away with its original, Beam Software's product remains extremely interesting anyway. Large room for manoeuvre and various random events (e.g. the appearance of Black Riders on the road) are of great importance for the attractiveness of the game. The only drawback of the game is only its difficulty level. This is because we often encounter situations in which we cannot find a suitable expression acceptable to the program. In addition, it is very easy to die in the Fellowship of the Ring, so it is good to record the state of the game frequently.
