The King of Fighters ‘97 Global Match is an old-school 2D fighting game. It is a port of The King of Fighters ’97, a game that was created a decade ago. The new version features a multiplayer mode that enables players from across the world to fight each other via the Internet. The game was developed by Japanese company SNK.

Plot

The story in the game revolves around an international martial arts tournament King of Fighters founded by a man known as Geese Howard. The tournament is an important event and it attracts warriors from all over the world.

Mechanics

The King of Fighters ‘97 Global Match is an old-school 2D fighting game. The players can choose their character and face their opponent on a two-dimensional map presented from a side perspective. Each of a few dozens of characters features unique list of attacks and maneuvers that can be combined into various combos. The basics are easy to learn, but a true mastery requires high agility and knowledge of fighting styles of characters. The gameplay in the new version is similar to the one in original The King of Fighters ’97 – the developers decided not to implement any changes or improvements. They did add however a special gallery mode and support for trophies/achievements.

Game modes

The {PLAT} version of The King of Fighters ’97 Global Match can be played alone or with other players. The greatest novelty, when compared to the previous release of the game, is the fact that the title includes a network module that enables the players to fight on the Internet.

Technical aspects

The graphics of The King of Fighters ’97 Global Match weren’t changed when compared to the original version. The title features two-dimensional characters and levels presented by animated sprites.
