Jeff Kaplan spent nearly two decades working at Blizzard, and after he left in 2021 (due to infighting over the Overwatch brand he oversaw) he founded his own development studio, called Kintsugiyama. The team's first project - also formed from other former Blizzard employees, such as Tim Ford - became The Legend of California game. Its release was undertaken by Dreamhaven, which was also created (in 2020) by Blizzard veteran Mike Morhaime.
