A refreshed version of the original online game from 2005. The project started its life as a modification to the cult game Half-Life 2. The story of the game was inspired by the novel Death on the Nile written by Agatha Christie. The game takes place on a ship where each of the passengers receives a task to kill a specific person. The objective can be completed in various ways, by using a wide variety of weapons and useful gadgets.
The Ship: Remasted for PC is a refreshed version of the unordinary online game developed by a no-longer-existing studio, Outerlight. The original started its life as a mod for the cult title Half-Life 2 and in 2006 it was released as a stand-alone game. Although a decade has passed, the original version of the game remains popular among the players – 250 thousands of new players started playing it in 2015. The remastered version of The Ship was developed by Blazing Griffin, creators of Distant Star: Relevant Fleet, a game awarded with BAFTA award. The development team consists of some people who created the original version of the game that was released in 2006.
Action in The Ship: Remasted for PC is observed from first-person perspective and the gameplay mechanics were inspired by one of the most popular crime books written by Agatha Christie – The Death on the Nile from 1937. The game takes place on a ship. Each passenger receives a task to eliminate a specific person on the deck. The objective can be completed in various ways, by using a wide variety of weapons and useful gadgets that allow setting traps or poisoning the victim. Depending on victory conditions set before the game, the competition is won by the player who obtains most cash, remains the last living passenger etc.
What makes completing the objectives harder is the fact that each participant is a potential victim for other players. Concentrating only on killing selected target is not enough as one must also secure his own safety. Changing clothes, haircuts or worn accessories can be helpful in misleading the opponent. What’s more, the ship contains various security systems such as cameras and guards. Thanks to that, the game lacks chaos typical for many online productions. Instead, it forces the players to plan their actions carefully and kill the targets far from potential witnesses. One must take care of various needs of his character such as hygiene, physiological needs, need for contact and conversation with other people.
Similarly as the original version of the game, The Ship: Remasted for PC is focused on multiplayer mode in which each player assumes the role of one passenger. When there are not enough players, then other passengers are controlled by advanced artificial intelligence algorithms.
The Ship: Remasted for PC isn’t much different from the original game from 2006. It offers improved graphics in HD resolution.
