The Smurfs Dance Party is a collaborative project of Ubisoft company and Sony Pictures Animation film studio. The game is not a faithful adaptation of the 3D The Smurfs movie, directed by Raja Gosnell, but rather a spin-off dance game featuring the blue-skinned characters. The Smurfs Dance Party was created with the help of professional choreographers. The publisher also bought license for songs from popular animated movies, as well as well-known songs.

The game follows the concept typical to the genre, so the gameplay in The Smurfs Dance Party is mainly about performing correct moves using WiiMote wireless controller, which is awarded with a certain number of points. Players mimic performance of selected characters from the Smurfs’ universe. The character roster includes: Grouchy Smurf, Smurfette, Papa Smurf, and even their arch enemy - Gargamel. Game developers prepared over 20 hilarious dance choreographies of varying level of difficultly. The soundtrack consists of various music genres, such as pop, R&B, rock, and punk.

The game allows for up to 4 people to play together. However, each player has to have a separate WiiMote. The visuals keep the quality level of other Ubisoft's dance game series (e.g. Just Dance), although fans of the cartoon version of the Smurfs may feel a bit disappointed with 3D characters models.
