The Whims of the Gods PC

The Whims of the Gods is a city builder strategy game in which we build a metropolis from scratch in a fantasy world inspired by ancient history, doing everything to postpone its inevitable destruction. The game is the debut work of the Polish PJ Games team from Warsaw, the result of cooperation established by Platige Image and Juggler Games.

Mechanics

In The Whims of the Gods we see the action from a bird's eye view. We start the game by creating a small settlement using basic resources. Initially we do not have a very wide range of buildings at your disposal. We can only construct things like simple houses and food storage warehouses. Over time we begin to create more complex production chains, including growing plants, breeding animals and extracting harder-to-find raw materials, thanks to which we also gain the opportunity to build more advanced structures.

This is not the end, because our subjects have their needs, which we must take care of. We also cannot mock matters related to religion, because it is futile to expect blessings from deities deprived of reverence. In addition, there are decisions that can affect the direction of development that our metropolis will take.

There are also issues beyond our control at play here. The specter of apocalypse, which will be caused by the eruption of a nearby volcano, constantly hangs over our metropolis. Everything indicates that we cannot avoid it (but can we really?), but only postpone it. Additionally, we have to deal with the consequences of somewhat less significant events, such as monster attacks and natural disasters, as well as more abundant harvests. We can prepare for their arrival by monitoring the calendar implemented in the game, predicting the near future.

Given that our city may fall victim to invasions, the game includes a simple skirmish system. Although the units we send into battle attack automatically, we can influence the course of battles by using special abilities that strengthen our subordinates. The skills we have at our disposal depend on the level of technological development of our metropolis and the buildings that we have erected.
